Our Story
When I was young, around 13 years old, I used to see cars passing by with tourists. I was fascinated and had a dream that one day I would work as a tour guide. After finishing primary school in Dar es Salaam, I returned home to Moshi to continue my secondary education. After completing Form Four, I started doing art by painting postcards, and then my father sent me to learn batik painting. But I found it very difficult because it wasn’t my passion. Since there are many tourists in Moshi, I went back to my father and asked him to help me find a job as a tour guide. He called my aunt who lives in Arusha to help me find a job.
I was around 20 to 22 years old, and my aunt told me that those jobs require qualifications. So, at the age of 22, I came to Arusha to search for a college. I joined the Nairobi Institute of Tours and Hotels Management for a one-year course specifically for tour guides. I also learned a little bit of English and Spanish. After that, I searched for a job as a tour guide, but because I was young, I couldn’t find one. So, I waited for about three more years until I was hired at the age of 26 as a Safari Guide. I worked from 2006 to 2012. After that, I had a vision to open my own company. I started with Lonely Planet on travellers provider forums. I participated and started getting clients. I got clients, but the obstacle was when they asked me for a company that I didn’t have. So, I decided to register a tourism company in 2012 named Safari Porini Adventures Limited.
